The Basics of Gardening
Creating, owning and maintaining a garden is not magic, it’s common sense. We can help you to learn how to avoid the pitfalls and make the most of what you’ve got. Gardening can be fun, if you make it less intimidating. One way to do this is to get yourself up-to-speed quickly. The BBC's free online gardening course 'How to be a Gardener' (with a certificate!) is prepared by Alan Titchmarsh and the Royal Horticultural Society, will bring life to your learning and make it enjoyable. This will give you the basics of great start in gardening.
Garden Design
Gardens can be the most inspirational part of your life...if yours isn't doing you justice, perhaps it is time for a change? There are many ways to plan your perfect garden; hire a nationwide or local garden designer (who will probably then buy the landscaping structures from The Home & Garden Centre anyway), design-it-yourself (there are some very useful and inspiring sites around such as The BBC's Garden Design Generator.
Our favourite way to design a garden is to use Forest Garden's 3D Online Garden Design Software, the beauty of which means that once you have designed your dream garden - placing sheds, arbours, fencing etc wherever you'd like them - you can send this to The Home & Garden Centre and we can create a guide price for all of your landscaping features, and allow you to buy everything at the click of a button - how is that for a great garden design service?!
Landscaping Features
If you are designing and landscaping your garden yourself, then it is important to understand the skills required to build the features in your garden efficiently (for financial reasons) and safety. When we say 'safety', we do not just mean your safety during the garden landscaping, but the safety of those using the garden once your landscaping is completed. Make a true judgement about your own skills; if you are not able to carry out any work, you have a couple of options; either seek a professional or local garden tradesman to do the manual work for you, or buy-in your landscaping features in DIY kit form on the internet (for best-value) from secure national garden centre online shops like us.
Garden Storage
It's all-well-and-good creating your own garden, but where do you store all of your equipment, mowers, tools, pots, spares, furniture...the list goes on! Depending on your garden size and budget there is a good range of garden buildings, sheds and storage solutions available in the market.
